Apple TV's Severance Expansion Plan Could Undermine the Show — Movieweb

Apple has acquired the rights to Severance, the series it has hosted since its 2022 premiere. The first two seasons were produced in partnership with indie studio Fifth Season, and the acquisition cost Apple around $70 million. Fifth Season will remain on board as executive producers.

Season 3 is still moving forward, with production expected to begin in mid 2026 and a possible 2027 release, though 2028 remains an option. The show already has a reputation for a glacial production process, and a potential move from New York to Canada to lower the budget could further affect the schedule.

Creator Dan Erikson and producer Ben Stiller are largely expected to make four seasons, making a fourth season likely, and the series could extend beyond that for narrative or financial reasons. With Fifth Season taking a less active role, decision-making around the show is likely to be more streamlined.
