Sha'Carri Richardson arrested for allegedly driving 104 mph on SR 429
Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested in Florida on Thursday, Jan. 29, after being booked on a charge of dangerous excessive speeding of 100 mph or more, the Orange County Corrections Department and Orange County Sheriff's Department confirmed to PEOPLE. The sheriff's department told PEOPLE Richardson was allegedly driving 104 miles per hour on SR 429 near Stoneybrook Parkway and was "dangerously tailgating and travelling across lanes of travel to pass other motorists." She was released on a $500 bond and has a court date of Feb.
26, the corrections department said. PEOPLE says it has reached out to USA Track and Field (USATF) and Richardson's representative for comment. The incident comes six months after Richardson was arrested and charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault following an alleged verbal altercation with her boyfriend, fellow runner Christian Coleman, at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport on July 27, 2025, USA Today reported, citing the Seattle Police Department.
The earlier reports said an officer allegedly saw Richardson push Coleman multiple times and that airport footage allegedly showed her bumping into him and throwing headphones; Coleman reportedly declined to press charges, telling authorities he "declined to be a victim," according to The New York Times.
Earlier in her career, Richardson tested positive for THC in 2021, resulting in a 30-day suspension and ineligibility for the Tokyo Olympics, and she has publicly addressed that episode.
