Pagesix reports that Sharna Burgess, 40, said she "struggled with binging and restricting mostly" and had a "super complicated relationship with food" during an Instagram "Ask Me Anything" on Sunday.

She told followers the pattern began as a teen and continued into her 20s, and that her habits "changed" in her 30s. Burgess previously described pressures from dance in a 2021 interview with Australia’s Good Health & Wellbeing magazine, saying teachers weighed students every two days and repeatedly told her to lose weight; she said that experience "instilled a negative body image" and led to cycles of binging one day and starving the next. Burgess credited joining Dancing With the Stars in 2011 with shifting her perspective after seeing other cast members learn to love their bodies through movement.

Her last season as a DWTS pro was in 2021, when she was partnered with her now-fiancé Brian Austin Green, and she left the following year after welcoming their son, Zane. Burgess said during the Instagram Q&A that returning to the show is "never a no," noting she was due to do something with the show last season but couldn’t commit because she was working on a play in NYC and that she "love[s] [the cast and crew]" and the show.
