Collider spoke with Shawn Ashmore about Season 8 of The Rookie, and he said the season will include more scenes between his character, A.D.A. Wesley Evers, and Angela.

After a major Season 7 twist in which Monica Stevens brokered an immunity deal and Sean Del Monte withdrew from the D.A. race after being attacked by the Eastern Front while with his son, Ashmore discussed Wesley's potential path, saying he "can't fully commit" to whether Wesley will enter the D.A. race but that the opportunity exists given his journey from defense attorney to A.D.A. Ashmore also said Wesley would keep his guard up around Monica—who is an asset to the FBI but remains self-centered—and that the unresolved Liam Glasser murder case from last year continues to create friction and obstacles for Wesley, including fallout from how Harper handled the case.

Ashmore said there are "great, great" scenes between Angela and Wesley this season, both funny and dramatic, but he did not confirm whether Wesley will pursue the D.A. mantle. The Rookie Season 8 premieres January 6 on ABC in the U.S.
