Shawn Levy says Starfighter will revisit Star Wars father-son dynamic
Movieweb reports that Shawn Levy, director of the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, said the film will revisit a father-son dynamic established in the original trilogy.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Levy remained coy about plot specifics but said Starfighter is based on a father-son dynamic similar to the Luke–Anakin storyline; he did not say whether Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray play father and son. Lucasfilm and Disney selected Levy from dozens of directors, and he told his father, "This movie is more stressful and challenging than anything I've ever done." He added, "My 10-year-old self is on set with me every day. That's how I make movies."
Levy's recent credits include Deadpool & Wolverine and work on projects such as Stranger Things. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy defended his background in family comedies, saying "He did family comedies, and that got reinterpreted as 'lightweight' — which is completely unfair. It is so hard to do movies like that. It's all I look for in directors, and it's like a needle in a haystack." Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027, and many other details remain unknown.
