Shawn Ryan on Peter’s future in The Night Agent: ‘A lot still could change’

Season 3 of The Night Agent follows Peter Sutherland as he tracks Treasury Agent Jay Batra, learns more about Jacob Monroe’s reach, and connects a persistent journalist to the financial networks enabling global crimes. The season also introduces a mysterious assassin and raises the moral stakes for the Night Agent.

Showrunner Shawn Ryan says the team let Monroe evolve alongside Louis Herthum’s performance, then provided an origin story that shows how extortion and government involvement shaped him. The goal, Ryan explains, was to complicate the heroes and humanize the villain.

Isabel was introduced as a reporter to explore the culpability of financial institutions and to give viewers time to know her before revealing she is Monroe’s adult daughter. Ryan notes the season drops clues early on to that connection, and that the reveal changes how viewers read her actions.
