The NFL revealed this week that veteran Shawn Smith will serve as the referee for Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium on Feb. 8, Cbssports reported. Smith, 54, began in the NFL as an umpire in 2015 and was promoted to referee in 2018. He has worked 10 postseason games — five wild‑card, three divisional and two conference title games — and officiated one playoff game this season, serving as the referee in the Patriots' 28-16 divisional-round win over the Texans.

This is his first Super Bowl assignment; it is only the second time in the past eight Super Bowls that the league has named a referee who had never handled the game before (Ron Torbert was the last, in Super Bowl LVI). Smith's crew averaged 13.94 flags per game in 2025, one of six crews under 14 per NFLPenalties.com, though he will not work with his regular crew for the Super Bowl.

The NFL named Roy Ellison (umpire), Dana McKenzie (down judge), Julian Mapp (line judge), Boris Cheek (side judge), Jason Ledet (field judge), Greg Steed (back judge) and Andrew Lambert (replay official) as his support. Team records with Smith over the past five years, via Pro Football Reference: Rams 5-3 (1-0 in 2025), Seahawks 3-3 (0-0 in 2025), Patriots 4-2 (1-0 in 2025), Broncos 1-3 (1-1 in 2025).
