Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone apologised to Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez after a heated touchline altercation during the Spanish Super Cup semi-final in Saudi Arabia, Goal reports. Speaking at a press conference on Monday ahead of Atletico’s Copa del Rey fixture against Deportivo La Coruna, Simeone said: "I would like to apologise to Mr Florentino and Mr Vinicius for the incident they witnessed.

It was wrong of me to put myself in that position, and I accept that it was wrong. The team that wins deserves to go through; they deserved to go through." He added: "I apologise, but I do not ask for forgiveness. I have nothing more to add." Cameras showed Simeone making provocations reportedly taunting Vinicius with claims Perez would offload him, and Movistar lip-readers identified him shouting: "Florentino is going to get rid of you, remember.

He's going to get rid of you." The exchange followed Vinicius’s substitution in the 81st minute at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium and led to a heated sideline confrontation that required Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso to intervene; Simeone received a yellow card. Vinicius’s future has been the subject of speculation — his contract runs until the summer of 2027 and talks over an extension have reportedly stalled after a 16-game goalless run prior to the Super Cup — though he scored in the final, which Real lost 3-2 to Barcelona.
