Simu Liu suggests Melissa Barrera as a possible Wonder Woman for the DCU
Movieweb reports MCU actor Simu Liu, speaking with JoBlo about his Peacock co‑star Melissa Barrera, suggested she would be a good fit to play Wonder Woman in James Gunn's DCU.
Liu praised Barrera's commitment on the set of The Copenhagen Test, saying, "She really pushes herself," and described some stunt training as "Wonder Woman‑esque." He added, "I don’t know who might be listening to this interview, James Gunn or anybody else out there... I’m just throwing it out there." Liu broke out with his role as Shang‑Chi in Marvel Studios' Shang‑Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021 and is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday.
Barrera starred as Sam Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023) and had been set to return for Scream VII before Spyglass Media fired her after she posted on social media denouncing Israel's assault on Gaza as "genocide"; Spyglass called the posts "anti‑Semitic," which Barrera rejected. The DCU is developing a new Wonder Woman movie with Ana Nogueira penning the screenplay, and while rumors have linked Wonder Woman to the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, James Gunn has denied the character has been cast or will appear in next year's follow‑up. Barrera has said she had 10 months without major film offers, and the report notes a Paramount bid for Warner Bros could also affect casting possibilities.
