Movieweb reports that Ryan Coogler's vampire thriller Sinners took home two awards at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 11, despite entering the ceremony with seven nominations.

The film won for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Original Score, the latter of which was not televised because it was announced during an ad break. Reaction on social media was divided, with some users celebrating the wins and others calling the outcome "a sham" and one of the event's biggest snubs. Sinners lost several high-profile categories to Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, including Best Screenplay and Director, and it missed Best Motion Picture (Drama), which Chloé Zhao accepted for Hamnet; Wagner Moura won Best Actor (Drama) over Michael B. Jordan, and KPop Demon Hunters clinched Best Original Song.

On the wider awards circuit, Sinners led with 17 Critics' Choice nominations and took four wins there, including Best Young Actor for Miles Caton. Final Oscar nominations have yet to be announced, but the film has been shortlisted in multiple categories including Best Original Score and Sound and could make Academy Award history if it secures more than 14 nominations. It is anticipated to appear on ballots for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, among supporting and technical categories, and is expected to be a contender for Best Original Screenplay.
