People reports that Skylene Montgomery first met NFL coach Sean Payton at a Saints game in 2014; the couple later became engaged in November 2019 and were married on June 18, 2021. Montgomery has supported Payton during his time as head coach of the Denver Broncos and the pair generally keep their relationship private.

Montgomery grew up in Parkersburg, W. Va., the only child of Skylar and Darlene Montgomery, and has described herself as a tomboy who played baseball, volleyball and softball. She attended Marshall University for exercise physiology and graduated from West Virginia University’s nursing program in 2009, has competed in pageants including Miss West Virginia 2008 and Miss USA, and has worked as a nurse in roles including the Gastrointestinal Intensive Care Unit at Ochsner Medical Center.

According to her friend Jennifer Ansardi, per Nola.com, Montgomery is “independent and wise, poised, caring and fun,” and she has been involved with Payton’s Play It Forward Foundation and other charity efforts. The couple’s engagement was announced on Nov. 10, 2019 after a private proposal on Nov.
