Arne Slot praised Mohamed Salah’s professionalism and singled out Joe Gomez after Liverpool climbed to fourth in the Champions League table with a commanding 3-0 win in Marseille.

Salah played the entire game on his return from the Africa Cup of Nations and, despite missing a gilt‑edged chance late on, contributed to a result that could enable Liverpool to avoid the playoffs next month. The victory was Liverpool’s ninth in 11 European away fixtures and the team host Qarabag at Anfield next week in their final group game.

Slot said Salah’s ability to play 90 minutes after one day’s training “says a lot about how big a professional he is.” He also singled out Gomez, noting the defender had “suffered a lot with injuries in the last few years” and calling him “outstanding” and “so important to us winning 3-0.” Slot added that he had not always picked Gomez when fit.

On the match, Slot said his side were controlled on the ball but highlighted key moments, including Hamed Traoré’s miss at 1-0 and chances that hit the post, and contrasted the creativity of the recent draw with Burnley to the tactics used in Marseille. Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring from a free‑kick he said he had practised: “I did my homework,” he said, adding that he noticed nobody was laying down behind the wall so he hit it under and it worked out.
