Solskjaer emerges as leading contender to be Manchester United caretaker
According to Goal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has emerged as the leading contender to take the caretaker manager role at Manchester United following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.
Per The Athletic, Solskjaer — who left the club as manager in 2021 — is open to the role and is being considered alongside former team-mate Ruud van Nistelrooy. United parted ways with Amorim on Monday and have held talks with potential caretakers; Solskjaer still lives in Cheshire, would be willing to step in and may see a temporary appointment as a route back to a full-time job, having initially been appointed as interim before becoming head coach. Reflecting on his time at the club in November, he said he felt privileged to be manager, that pressure was a privilege, and that a "very bad six-week spell" led to the change.
United face Burnley in midweek and will be led by Under-21 coach Darren Fletcher as the club continues its search for Amorim's successor.
