Collider reports that Sonic X is available to stream for free on Pluto TV, giving fans a widely praised animated take on the video game hero while they wait for Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

The series opens with Sonic locked in battle with Doctor Robotnik and, after a freak accident involving the Chaos Emeralds, sends Sonic and his friends to an alternate dimension where they befriend a boy named Chris Thorndyke. Sonic X adapts the Sonic Adventure games, introducing characters such as Amy Rose, Shadow the Hedgehog and Emerl, and was noted for capturing Sonic's cocky confidence despite mixed reactions to the English 4Kids dub and to Chris as a character.

In its third season the show shifts to a darker, sci-fi arc against an alien race called the Metarex, with Sonic and allies reuniting with Chris and even joining forces with Robotnik; the storyline ends with Cosmo sacrificing herself alongside Shadow. The series became one of the highest-ranking animated shows during its run and spawned tie-ins including comic books, a trading card game and a line of McDonald's video games, and is now available to stream on Pluto TV for fans seeking a Sonic fix.
