Sony’s WH-1000XM6 over-ear noise-cancelling headphones are back at their holiday price on Amazon, with a limited-time deal dropping them to $398 — a price Kotaku says sits below the WH-1000XM5’s original cost.

When the WH-1000XM6 launched last May, Gizmodo called them “damn near perfect,” and Kotaku reports Sony took the XM5’s best features and upgraded them further to set a new high bar for consumer ANC headphones.

Sony revised the design for travel and comfort with a foldable construction and a widened headband, added a 10-band EQ in the Sony Sound Connect app for deeper customization, and boosted battery life to an almost unheard-of 30 hours even while ANC is engaged.

Kotaku highlights ANC improvements including a new QN3 processor, 12 upgraded microphones and AI Noise Optimization, saying these deliver the best active noise cancellation of any wireless headphones; the QN3 is described as 7x faster than the XM5’s QN1, and the XM5 had eight microphones. The article also notes ANC and Ambient Sound can be toggled with a single button and that the Sound Connect app offers extensive controls.

Kotaku calls the Amazon price a limited-time deal and adds that “the word on the street is” Sony won’t release a WH-1000XM7 in 2026, suggesting shoppers can buy the XM6 at this price with confidence while the promotion lasts — but the future product plans remain uncertain.
