The first season of House of Ashur closes with the episode "Hail Caesar," wrapping an alternate-timeline arc in which Ashur killed Spartacus and inherited Batiatus' ludus. Over ten episodes the dominus rises from mistreatment to power, leaving some characters on shaky ground and others with new prospects as the season ends.

In the finale Ashur kills Julius Caesar after a brutal sword fight at the ludus. Jackson Gallagher’s Caesar, who first appears in episode five, had repeatedly bullied Ashur and promised to rebuild the arena and give him control of all games in Capua if Ashur assassinated Gabinus and disrupted the planned union between Pompey and Viridia.

When Caesar reneges and insults him, the confrontation escalates and Ashur delivers the killing blow, a rewrite of the Ides of March that casts Ashur in the role of the conspirators. The episode also settles key questions about Achillia’s arc.
