Spotify raises prices for Premium, Student, Duo and Family plans
Spotify is increasing prices for several of its paid plans, the company said, affecting Premium, Student, Duo and Family subscriptions. In a message to subscribers earlier this week the music streamer said it was "updating the price of Spotify," and that Premium users would receive an email over the next month explaining the change.
Under the new pricing, Premium moves from $11.99 to $12.99 a month and Student from $5.99 to $6.99. Duo rises from $16.99 to $18.99 and Family from $19.99 to $21.99. The company said the change is "to keep delivering a great experience." The new price will take effect when subscribers receive next month's bill.
Spotify's last price increase was in June 2024, after a rise in July 2023. Spotify still offers a free tier; Premium adds ad-free listening, lossless audio, offline listening and full control over what songs you hear. For a lower cost, individuals can buy an annual gift card for $99, which the article says calculates to roughly $8.25 per month — with the caveat that you pay the full year upfront and cannot cancel midway.
Those considering alternatives can opt for other streaming services. Apple Music and YouTube Music are cited at $10.99 per month for individual accounts, with comparable features, while Tidal is noted as a choice for audiophiles offering upgraded audio formats such as lossless, HiRes FLAC and Dolby Atmos, also listed at $10.99 a month.
