S.S. Rajamouli’s Varanasi set for worldwide release April 7, 2027
Varanasi, the next film from R.R.R. director S.S. Rajamouli, will be released worldwide on April 7, 2027.
Rajamouli, who saw R.R.R. become a global phenomenon and win an Oscar for best original song, is aiming even bigger with Varanasi, a globetrotting adventure that spans thousands of years and takes its name from the holy Indian city and the banks of the Ganges.
While plot details remain top‑secret, Rajamouli has confirmed that a section of the film is directly inspired by the Ramayana and that parts take place in the not‑too‑distant future when an asteroid threatens to destroy the Earth.
The cast includes Mahesh Babu in the starring role as both Rama and a warrior named Rudhra; Priyanka Chopra returning to Indian cinema as Mandakini (her poster shows her wielding a gun); and Prithviraj Sukumaran as Kumbha, a villain in a wheelchair fitted with Doctor Octopus‑like mechanical limbs.
Rajamouli revealed the title and released a three‑minute teaser last November, but many specifics remain unclear — with the release date now official, fans can mark their calendars; the film is about 14 months away.
