Starfleet Academy's dark new episode changes the series' stakes
Starfleet Academy leans into college hijinks — prank wars, faculty betting and tense rivalry between cadets — as Episode 6, “Come, Let’s Away,” opens with a training mission aboard the derelict USS Miyazaki. [Ed. note: This story contains major spoilers for Starfleet Academy episode 6.] The exercise spirals when a group of hostile aliens called the Furies board the Miyazaki and surround it with a dampening field that prevents anyone from beaming out.
War College Lt. Commander Tomov springs into action to protect the students, and Caleb Mir watches in horror as Tomov pays for his courage with his life: “He didn’t hesitate,” Caleb gasps. With the Federation fearing the Furies will kill the cadets even for ransom, Admiral Charles Vance turns to the devious space pirate Nus Braka, a foe who has fought the Furies before.
