Stephen King Mystery Series 'Haven' Remains an Underrated Gem on Streaming
Stephen King moved beyond horror into crime and mystery with a supernatural bend, and several of those stories found their way to television. Mister Mercedes and Big Driver are among them, but Haven — adapted from King’s 2005 Hard Case Crime novel The Colorado Kid — remains one of the more overlooked examples.
Premiering on July 9, 2010, the series stars Emily Rose as FBI agent Audrey Parker, who arrives in the small Maine town to investigate the death of an escaped prisoner. Assisted by Detective Nathan Wuornos, she uncovers Marion Caldwell’s paranormal involvement, sees an old newspaper clipping linking her to a past case, and soon becomes entwined in the 1983 Colorado Kid mystery, eventually leaving the FBI to join the Haven Police Department.
Haven’s strength lies in its characters and emotional core.
