Steve Martin and Martin Short publicly paid tribute to Catherine O’Hara during an onstage appearance in Austin, Texas, just hours after her death, in a video circulating via TikTok. The pair, both dressed in suits, appeared at the Bass Concert Hall on Friday. In the clip they clinked what appeared to be champagne glasses, raised them to the applauding audience, and a portrait of O’Hara was displayed on a screen behind them.

Martin Short told the crowd he met O’Hara when she was 18 and called her “the greatest, most brilliant, kindest, sweetest angel that any of us worked with,” before the two raised a glass, per the video. Fans echoed the tribute in the video’s comments, with users writing, “We love and adore her – this was touching” and “Catherine was a queen,” while others noted her decades-long friendships with fellow performers.

O’Hara died Friday at her Los Angeles home after a “brief illness,” her agency CAA said. The Los Angeles Fire Department told Page Six it responded to an emergency call at her Brentwood home just before 5:00 a.m. and transported her to the hospital in “serious” condition. A cause of death has not been revealed; 911 dispatch audio indicated she was having “breathing difficulty.” Sources told the Daily Mail some friends were left in “complete shock” and “kept in the dark” about the mystery illness.

She is survived by husband Bo Welch and their two sons.
