Movieweb argues that after Stranger Things' Season 5 finale, the planned live-action spin-off may be unnecessary. Spoiler warning: this article contains spoilers for Stranger Things Season 5.

The piece notes Vecna has been defeated and Eleven’s fate is left unknown, while the Duffer Brothers are reportedly developing a separate live-action series alongside an animated spin-off, Stranger Things: Tales from '85. Matt Duffer told ScreenRant the new show is 'a completely different story and a completely different location with completely different actors and characters,' and told Variety that an important scene in the Season 5 finale — when young Henry Creel finds a briefcase with a rock in a cave — points to 'a completely different mythology' that 'will answer some of the loose threads.'

The writer says spin-offs are never a safe bet and questions whether a series without the original cast, Hawkins or familiar creatures will be as compelling. It remains to be seen if the new series is needed or whether the finale's answers about the Upside Down and the characters are sufficient to close the story.
