Nbc reports The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's release date has been moved up two days to Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The film had been scheduled for April 3 but will now open nationwide on April 1, 2026, matching the weekday the first Super Mario Bros. Movie premiered. The report cautions that the April 1 date is not an April Fools' joke.

Fans can expect Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad to travel to outer space to battle Bowser Jr., who seeks to free his father — Bowser was shrunk and placed inside a jar at the end of the first film — and take over the universe. The latest trailer confirmed Yoshi will appear, showing Mario and Luigi using their Fire Flower power to rescue Yoshi from a crumbling castle inside Sand Kingdom; Yoshi later fits into the group's dynamic, to Toad's chagrin. The trailer is said to be packed with Easter eggs, and the report even asks whether viewers saw a Super Scope 6-yielding Yoshi defending Baby Mario and Baby Luigi from a T-Rex.

Mark your calendars: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters on April 1, 2026.
