Super Mario Galaxy movie trailer reveals Yoshi, Birdo and Baby Mario

Kotaku reports Nintendo held a Sunday Direct presentation for the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and a new trailer reveals Yoshi, Birdo and other characters; the film is set to premiere on April 1.

The trailer opens with Mario and Luigi investigating a pipe they expect to contain a monster, only to find a frightened little dino who becomes a companion that eats baddies and poops them out into eggs. Yoshi's movie look was previously seen in November after a cookie dough box revealed his appearance. The teaser also includes a brief shot of Birdo fighting Peach and a glimpse of Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, though it is unclear whether those babies are distinct characters or a transformation state for the brothers. Bowser Jr. and Rosalina were revealed in the first trailer last year.

The presentation did not confirm whether big celebrity actors will voice the newly revealed characters as they have for the rest of the cast. Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri said all animation is complete and the film has entered post-production, focusing on sound design and finishing the score. The movie isn't out for another couple of months, so more surprises from Nintendo may still appear.
