Collider's calculations using a supercomputer find One Battle After Another the most likely winner of the Best Picture Oscar, with Ryan Coogler's Sinners running a close second. The 98th Academy Awards nominations set up a clear two-film race for the top prize.

Several factors work in One Battle After Another's favor: its revolutionary story and emotional stakes, a star-studded cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn and Teyana Taylor, and Paul Thomas Anderson's track record with Oscar voters. The film has also dominated awards season, taking Best Picture at the Critics' Choice Awards and Best Picture – Comedy or Musical at the Golden Globes.

BAFTA will provide another test on February 22, where One Battle After Another leads with 14 nominations to Sinners' 13. A BAFTA win would turbocharge its Oscar momentum, and the film's run is being compared to Oppenheimer's sweep of many precursor awards en route to multiple Oscars.
