Sydney Sweeney’s The Housemaid Hits $350 Million, Tops Digital Charts
Sydney Sweeney has staged a comeback after a yearlong slump. At the end of 2023 she headlined and co-produced Anyone But You, which grossed more than $230 million worldwide, and she repeated the feat exactly two years later with The Housemaid, a psychological thriller that recently moved from theaters to transactional streaming.
This past weekend The Housemaid reached $350 million globally—about $125 million domestic and $225 million overseas. Directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar and Michele Morrone, the film holds a "Certified Fresh" 74% critics' score and a "Verified Hot" 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes; the aggregator's consensus reads, "A sly throwback to the lurid thrillers that used to dominate multiplexes, The Housemaid cleans up nicely thanks to its wicked sense of fun and a delightfully unnerving performance from Amanda Seyfried." FlixPatrol data shows it is topping domestic iTunes and Amazon charts, and a sequel has already been announced.
