Sydney Sweeney’s The Housemaid Keeps Top Spot on PVOD
Sydney Sweeney’s thriller The Housemaid continues to dominate PVOD, holding the top spot on digital platforms while sitting at a $360 million worldwide total, roughly $30 million short of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It has remained ahead even after A24’s highest-grossing movie, Marty Supreme, became available for rental.
The film’s PVOD success has been driven in part by timing: it arrived on PVOD on Feb. 3, just before Valentine’s Day, and its seductive, guilty‑pleasure tone proved a draw for viewers over the holiday weekend. The Housemaid is also based on Freida McFadden’s popular novel, and continued social media buzz—especially on TikTok—has kept interest high.
By contrast, Marty Supreme, which dethroned Everything Everywhere All at Once to become A24’s biggest grosser and earned nine Oscar nominations, has a more niche appeal as a sports comedy‑drama about table tennis starring Timothée Chalamet and directed by Josh Safdie.
