Goal reports Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Burnley at Anfield on Jan 17, 2026 after Dominik Szoboszlai missed a penalty.

Liverpool enjoyed the vast majority of possession and created numerous chances, but were awarded a penalty on the half-hour after Florentino fouled Cody Gakpo; Szoboszlai smashed his effort onto the crossbar, his miss coming five days after an error against Barnsley in the FA Cup. Twelve minutes after the penalty miss Florian Wirtz gave Liverpool the lead after Hugo Ekitike broke down the left and Curtis Jones found Wirtz to thrash home, and Burnley’s Marcus Edwards later cut into the box to fire low across Alisson to level.

Home fans voiced their displeasure at the final whistle and the draw means all three newly-promoted sides have taken a point on visits to Anfield this season. The match report included player ratings, with Wirtz and Curtis Jones given 8/10, Milos Kerkez 8/10, Szoboszlai 6/10 and manager Arne Slot 5/10, the latter with the note that he "really should've made changes earlier in the match."
