Szoboszlai says he spoke to Salah 'almost every day' but declines to confirm Liverpool future
According to Goal, Dominik Szoboszlai revealed he spoke to Mohamed Salah "almost every day" while the forward was at the Africa Cup of Nations, but the midfielder refused to clarify Salah's future at Liverpool after the player said his relationship with manager Arne Slot had "broken down".
Szoboszlai said the pair spoke frequently — "Yes, to be honest, almost every day" — but described the details of their conversations as private: "That's between me and him." He added that the decision over Salah's place was "between the manager and the club." It remains to be confirmed on Tuesday whether Salah will be included in the travelling squad for the Champions League tie against Marseille, though he did train with his team-mates.
On the pitch, Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Burnley — a match in which Szoboszlai missed a penalty — was cited as evidence of how much the team has missed Salah's clinical edge; the Reds recorded 32 shots but scored once. Szoboszlai also addressed a "tough week" after an error against Barnsley, denying the suggestion the attempt was "disrespectful," and revealed that talks over a new contract are currently ongoing despite his deal running until 2028.
