Team Fortress 2 Classified (formerly TF2 Classic) has relaunched on Steam as an official mod, running on the TF2 SDK Valve released last year, and the launch drew nearly 10,000 players with both official and community servers crammed for hours. The revamp pares the 19-year-old shooter back toward its pre-hats era while adding a select few new weapons, modes, and an entirely new class: the Civilian.

The Civilian is a mostly-unarmed special class intended for VIP mode who must be delivered mostly-unharmed and can buff teammates with mini-crits, though servers can enable the class outside VIP at hosts' discretion. New and redesigned gear includes pre-release inspired weapons such as the Nail Gun, Dynamite Pack, and Tranquilizer Gun, plus standout additions like the Soldier's R.P.G., engineer-buildable jump pads, and the Medic's Rejuvinator (a medigun replacement that trades the tether beam for a medicinal grenade launcher).

The mod also adds new items (jump pads, flak cannons, bricks, chains around fists), Multi-Team maps with GRN and YLW teams for Arena and King of the Hill, and exclusive modes like Domination and VIP Race, alongside visual upgrades like improved textures, models, and restored toon-style shading.

Classified emphasizes community tooling: it offers extensive modding support and expanded custom server tools so servers can mount advanced weapon packs and maps and change game rules.
