The Expanse offers a satisfying sci-fi alternative for Game of Thrones fans
Movieweb says Amazon Prime Video’s The Expanse is an ideal pick for Game of Thrones fans seeking another epic series. Adapted from the books by James S. A. Corey, the show spans six seasons; SyFy canceled it after three seasons and Prime Video picked it up for seasons four through six.
The series is set in a colonized Solar System and follows three groups — those from the Asteroid Belt (the Belters), Mars, and Earth. The Belters are portrayed as a lower class, and the show explores poverty and class systems alongside shocking deaths, complex characters and ongoing threats of war, with themes of conflict, political power, bravery and freedom.
Unlike Game of Thrones, The Expanse concludes on a satisfying note. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Naren Shankar said "the time gap between book six and book seven is almost 30 years. So it's a natural place and a natural ending in many ways." The series ran from 2015 to 2022, according to the article.
