The Green Mile returns to streaming, re-enters VOD top 10 internationally
Collider reports that The Green Mile, starring Tom Hanks, is streaming on Peacock in the U.S. and has re-entered the VOD top 10 in Germany and several other countries.
The 1999 prison drama, written and directed by Frank Darabont and based on Stephen King's novel, follows a death-row guard who discovers that a gentle giant in his charge possesses an unusual gift. Hanks starred alongside David Morse and the late Michael Clarke Duncan; the film was released on December 10, 1999, and runs 189 minutes. It reportedly cost around $60 million to make, went on to gross $286 million worldwide, sits at a 78% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 94% audience rating on Popcornmeter, and continues to generate profits as a streaming title.
Looking ahead, Hanks will reprise Woody in Toy Story 5, due in theaters on June 19, and Tim Allen is set to return as Buzz Lightyear. Hanks is also attached to a Greyhound sequel, with Stephen Graham expected to return and Hanks writing the script; Greyhound 2 will likely begin filming soon but does not yet have an official release date.
