Movieweb reports that Jason Statham's The Meg 2: The Trench is sinking its teeth into the Prime Video streaming chart and could well swim into a top-five position going into the weekend.

The sequel arrived five years after the first film and adapts Steve Alten's 1999 sequel; the original The Meg chomped up cinemas with a $529 million box office. Critics were harsh—The Meg 2's critical score dropped to 27%—but audiences rated it 72%. The film leans into large CGI shark set pieces and, as one review put it, is "An absolute blast of high budget camp," with another calling it "hilariously ridiculous."

There has been no word on a third movie, and as the report notes, "it is always hard to rule out such a thing happening in the future," leaving the franchise's next steps uncertain even as the sequel finds renewed life on streaming.
