The Pitt season 2: new staff arrive as Dr. Robby plans a sabbatical
Time reports that ten months after its first-season finale The Pitt returns for a second season set over a Fourth of July weekend shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center emergency room, starring Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch.
Robby, still suffering from pandemic-induced PTSD, is one shift away from a planned three-month leave he intends to spend on a cross-country motorcycle trip; Sepideh Moafi's Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi has been brought in to serve as interim chief attending and clashes with Robby over medical philosophy and new initiatives such as 'patient passports' and AI charting tools. Moafi told USA Today that romance "isn't necessarily in the cards" and added, "I can assure there will be no broom closets involved," describing their dynamic as two animals circling and sniffing each other out.
Season 2 also introduces trainees who move quickly into high-stress roles: Irene Choi's third-year medical student Joy Kwon is described as clinical and apathetic; Lucas Iverson's fourth-year student James Ogilvie is portrayed as an arrogant know-it-all; and nursing school graduate Emma Nolan (Laëtitia Hollard), a trainee of Nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa), is a bright-eyed recruit from upper Michigan who may seem a little naive but "we're trusting she'll eventually find her footing in her new high-stress role."
