Movieweb reports that Joe Carnahan's Netflix crime thriller The Rip closes with a dedication to Jake William Casiano, linking the film's Lt. Dane Dumars to real-life Miami police officer Chris Casiano.

The Rip, which stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as Miami detectives who uncover a large stash of cash, draws on a 2016 incident detailed by the Miami Herald about a $24 million seizure. Carnahan incorporated additional real-world details about the officers involved, and Casiano served as the film's technical advisor after first telling Carnahan the $24 million story while working with him on Bad Boys for Life (2020).

On screen, Dumars is revealed to have lost his son Jake to cancer; in reality, Casiano's son Jake William Casiano died in 2021 from leukemia at age 11. Carnahan said he had Casiano's blessing to include the detail, calling it "really important to me that [Jake] be the first name you see," and said he wanted to create "a vessel" for grief rather than exploit the memory. Carnahan has described the dedication as the film's "beating heart," and the ending underlines the emotional throughline that guides Dumars throughout the story.
