The Secret Agent to hit NEON digital platforms on January 27
Movieweb reports that Brazilian neo-noir thriller The Secret Agent, written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, is set to be made available on digital streaming via NEON around the world starting Tuesday, January 27, roughly two months after its theatrical release.
The 2025 film is up for three Golden Globe nominations—Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actor for Wagner Moura—and the 83rd Golden Globes are set to take place tomorrow (Sunday, January 11) at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Set in a turbulent 1977, the story follows Marcelo (Moura), an ex-professor pursued by mercenary killers who must enlist an underground resistance to escape Brazil with his young son. The cast includes the late Udo Kier, Maria Fernanda Candido, Gabriel Leone and others; the source lists a release date of November 6, 2025 and a runtime of 158 minutes.
That January 27 streaming window was reported by When to Stream. A review by Juan Barquin praised Mendonça Filho’s balancing of lofty themes and absurdist humor, and the film holds a 99% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes from 151 reviews.
