Collider reports Kleber Mendonça Filho’s The Secret Agent won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Non-English Language. The Brazilian political thriller beat films including Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice, Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident, Spain’s Sirāt, Tunisia’s The Voice of Hind Rajab and Norway’s Sentimental Value.

The Secret Agent entered the night nominated in three categories, including Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for Wagner Moura; those nominations were the first time a Brazilian production and a Brazilian actor were nominated in those Globe categories.

The win continues the film’s awards momentum after an earlier Critics’ Choice victory and a strong festival run at Cannes, where it was the most awarded film and earned Mendonça Filho Best Director and Moura Best Actor, and later tied for honors at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards.
