Themba Zwane expected to stay at Sundowns as contract nears expiry
Goal reports that Themba Zwane, the 36-year-old South African midfielder, is facing contract uncertainty at Mamelodi Sundowns but sources close to the player have suggested he is likely to remain at the club on a short-term deal as his current contract expires in June. Zwane, who joined Sundowns in 2011 after spells at M Tigers and Vardos FC and a loan to Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2013/14, has been a consistent performer for both club and country.
He has made more than 50 appearances for Bafana Bafana, earning his 50th cap in October 2024, and has won multiple domestic and continental honours with Sundowns. His season was disrupted by a nasty Achilles injury in October 2024 that kept him sidelined for months; since returning he has been in and out of the team.
Kick Off reported that, after signing a one-year deal at the start of the season, Zwane is eligible to sign a pre-contract with another club under FIFA regulations, but club management is said to remain confident in his ability to contribute and is advocating for his continued stay.
