They turned a disposable vape into a synth ocarina — Pcgamer

Paperbagteam posted a DIY project on Instructables that converts a disposable vape into a mini synth roughly inspired by an ocarina. The creators say the effort highlights salvageable parts and diverts them into open source hardware projects, and they are developing two models.

The guide runs through more than 20 steps, showing how to open the vape, 3D print a case alteration, work with the circuitry and solder the board, and place a speaker in the centre alongside LED sensors. You play the device by sucking in the way you would a normal vape.

The second model uses a wireless connection to existing instruments or computer music programs with audio samples to act as an alternate input device. The write-up calls this version a little less novel than the first but notes it could still be usable for making digital music, even playfully suggesting it might suit stoner-rock or Mac DeMarco–style tones.
