They Were Always on the Right Path
Olivia Nicole Bergen and Dr. Peter Berg Anderson first connected on Bumble after she noticed his “selfie in the mountains with green trees behind him.” Their early conversations during the 2020 pandemic included a couple of Zoom dates, and both found comfort in the idea of hiking together; he had hiked 1,000 miles of the Appalachian Trail, and she dreamed of a 2,200-mile solo thru-hike.
He grew up in Westwood, Mass., and developed a love of the outdoors as a Cub Scout and Eagle Scout before medical school. She grew up in Bow, N.H., exploring the White Mountains from age 7 and eventually hiking all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000-foot peaks; she graduated magna cum laude from N.Y.U.’s Abu Dhabi campus and earned a master’s at the Yenching Academy at Peking University.
Ms. Bergen now works in Rochester with the nonprofit groups ISAIAH and Faith in Minnesota. Their early outings included a picnic at Clark Lookout and a hike up Black Mountain, where she brought homemade “Choreos” and they shared their first kiss at an overlook.
