Gamesradar reports the third 28 Years Later film was confirmed on December 10, 2025, with Cillian Murphy said to be in talks to reprise Jim after the release of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is currently in cinemas. Official details remain scarce. The Bone Temple, released in the UK on January 13, 2026, ends with Spike (Alfie Williams) and Jimmy Ink/Kelly (Erin Kellyman) about to meet Jim and his daughter Sam (Maiya Eastmond), suggesting those characters are likely to return.

Other probable returns named in reporting include Aaron Taylor-Johnson and the Alpha Infected Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry), while Naomie Harris's Selina is listed only as a "maybe" and Megan Burns is considered unlikely to return as she has retired from acting. The Bone Temple concludes with Dr.

Kelson appearing to have found a cure for the infection before his death, and the final scene has Jim reply "Of course" when asked if they should help Spike and Kelly. What happens next is partly known and partly speculation: Alex Garland's script is reported as written, but filming has not started and there is no trailer.
