Movieweb reports that the 2001 remake Thirteen Ghosts has recently cracked into HBO Max's Top 10.

The Steve Beck-directed horror film, a new take on William Castle's 13 Ghosts, stars Tony Shalhoub, Shannon Elizabeth and Matthew Lillard and follows a family that inherits a mansion containing a dozen ghosts. The remake expanded the concept with more lore, individual backstories and distinct creature designs, and it even nods to Castle's Illusion-O gimmick by showing characters wearing goggles to see apparitions. Despite its Top 10 placement, the film remains a polarizing entry—it sits at 19% on Rotten Tomatoes with a 49% audience score—and other titles in HBO's current Top 10, such as Sinners, One Battle After Another and Weapons, have recently earned awards attention, making Thirteen Ghosts an outlier.

Why interest has surged is unclear; the outlet notes there is no obvious seasonal or star-driven explanation. The film was released on October 26, 2001, runs 91 minutes, and reports emerged in 2023 that a TV series adaptation was in the works.
