This Jenna Ortega Misfire Is the Streaming Hit Nobody Predicted
Jenna Ortega rose quickly — from a starring role in the legacy sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to turning Wednesday Addams into the role she was born to play on Netflix — but she has also been part of some disappointing projects as she continues to learn her trade.
Hurry Up Tomorrow, which stars Ortega alongside Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, promised a mind-bending thriller about "a musician plagued by insomnia [who] is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence." Instead, the film earned a dismal 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, with one critic quipping, "On second thought, let's fast-forward to the workweek." Jeff Ewing added that "Characters aren't given sufficient depth, story beats are repetitive (we get it, you're stressed walking out to perform), and it's too late by the time it gets going in the final act." The movie, directed by Trey Edward Shults, is the lowest-scoring project in Ortega's career on Rotten Tomatoes.
