Thomas Frank says Spurs 'going in the right direction' despite 14th place
Goal reports Thomas Frank says Tottenham Hotspur are "going in the right direction" under his stewardship, even though the club sit 14th in the Premier League and have managed just one top-flight victory in their last eight fixtures.
Frank, who took over after Ange Postecoglou in June, won six of Tottenham's opening 10 games and saw the side rise to third at the start of November, but form soured after a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal and losses to Paris Saint-Germain and Fulham. Spurs then beat Brentford and Slavia Prague—Xavi Simons and Mohamed Kudus scored in the latter—but have since lost to Nottingham Forest and Liverpool, the latter game leaving the team reduced to nine men after Simons and captain Cristian Romero were sent off; supporters have at times booed the team.
Calling the club a "transition phase", Frank said they only qualified for the Champions League by winning the Europa League after finishing 17th last season, and that key offensive players have left or are long-term injury absentees. Tottenham travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday without suspended pair Simons and Romero; Palace sit eighth, four points above Spurs, and are looking to bounce back from a recent Carabao Cup penalty-shootout defeat to Arsenal.
