Three Resident Evil games to play before Resident Evil Requiem
Resident Evil Requiem draws heavily on the series' 30-year history, bringing Leon S. Kennedy back and returning players to Raccoon City. If you want a solid grasp of the characters and locations Requiem builds on, three older entries are the most useful to play before the new game.
Resident Evil 2 introduces Leon as a rookie cop and follows Claire Redfield as she searches for her brother, with both routes converging around the R.P.D. station. Claire’s route also introduces Sherry Birkin, who is tied to Umbrella; analysis of the latest Requiem trailer even suggests the dispatcher talking to Leon might be Sherry, which would make elements of RE2 important to the new story.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis centers on Jill Valentine as Raccoon City collapses under a T-Virus outbreak while the Nemesis bioweapon hunts S.T.A.R.S. members. The game forces constant movement through key city locations — including the R.P.D.
