Times critics lay out their choices for Oscar nominees ahead of Jan. 22
The New York Times film critics Manohla Dargis and Alissa Wilkinson published their picks for who they think voters should nominate for this year’s Academy Awards; Academy Award nominations will be announced on Jan. 22.
The critics identify several consensus selections: Paul Thomas Anderson for Best Director for One Battle After Another; Michael B. Jordan in Sinners for Best Actor; Benicio Del Toro in One Battle After Another and Delroy Lindo in Sinners for Best Supporting Actor; Wunmi Mosaku in Sinners and Teyana Taylor in One Battle After Another for Best Supporting Actress; Marty Supreme and The Secret Agent for Best Original Screenplay; and One Battle After Another for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Dargis and Wilkinson also offer different individual choices across categories — for example, Dargis names Ryan Coogler and Kathleen Chalfant among her selections, while Wilkinson includes Mona Fastvold and Jessie Buckley — and several of the picks are linked to reviews in the article. The critics’ full lists accompany the piece as voters and the public await the official nominations on Jan. 22.
