Toby and Liam were paired for a Guardian blind date and met for dinner at Erev in London W11.

The pair covered a range of topics, from favourite films, music and books to Scooby-Doo, running, Jonathan Bailey and the best and worst carbs. Toby said Liam seemed somewhat shy and praised the way Liam spoke about his friends; Liam called Toby zesty, cute and chatty and highlighted Toby's philosophical questions, including the ongoing thought experiment 'Shag, marry or kill pasta, rice and bread?'

There were a few awkward moments: Toby said Liam referenced the 'six seven' meme, which left him unsure how to react, and both admitted to being 'somewhat feral' in devouring the food, while Liam also described their table manners as impeccable. They were one of the last tables at the restaurant and stayed until closing; no kiss occurred.

Both enjoyed the evening but felt it lacked a romantic spark. Liam rated the date a solid 7 out of 10 and said he would meet Toby again for a run and a coffee but not romantically; Toby enjoyed the experience but did not assign a numerical score. The blind date column runs in Saturday's magazine and online and invites applicants via blind.date@theguardian.com.
