Todd Howard: Bethesda will return to classic style for Elder Scrolls 6 — Pcgamer

Bethesda game director Todd Howard told Greg Miller on the Kinda Funny Gamescast that Starfield's next update is unlikely to change the minds of players who didn't already enjoy it. He said the studio has always evolved but maintains a certain style that fans appreciate.

Howard described Fallout 76 and Starfield as a little bit of a creative detour from the classic Elder Scrolls and Fallout experiences — the sort of games exemplified by Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and Oblivion. As work continues on Elder Scrolls 6, he said the team is returning to that familiar style they know well.

One concrete change will be the engine. Bethesda has spent several years upgrading Creation Engine 2 to Creation Engine 3, and Howard said that updated engine will power Elder Scrolls 6 and future projects. The studio previously used Gamebryo for Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3, then moved to the Creation Engine for Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 before upgrading to Creation Engine 2 for Starfield.
