Movieweb reports that Tom Cruise visited the set of the upcoming film Starfighter and reportedly helped film an action scene, holding one of the digital cameras; that scene is said to have been a lightsaber fight. Since Star Wars Celebration 2025, it is known that Starfighter will take place five to six years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, a timing that gives a lightsaber sequence clear implications for the post‑Rise timeline.

Daisy Ridley is confirmed to return as Rey in a separate film set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, which would be by default either ten or nine years after Starfighter, and the report notes the presence of a lightsaber could hint at early Jedi activity or other franchise developments.

The piece also stresses a lightsaber does not necessarily mean a Jedi or Sith is present, citing examples such as General Grievous using captured lightsabers and Finn briefly wielding Luke Skywalker’s weapon. Little is known of Starfighter’s plot beyond assumptions that Ryan Gosling’s character is the uncle of Flynn Gary’s character and that villains include Matt Smith and Mia Goth, with recurring rumors that Amy Adams may play the sister and mother to Flynn Gary’s character and could be a former Jedi.
