Tom Hanks begins filming Greyhound 2 in Australia as Apple keeps January plan
Tom Hanks — who wrote and starred in the World War II drama Greyhound — has arrived in Australia to begin filming the confirmed sequel, Collider reports, and Apple is sticking to a planned January start for production.
Little else is known about Greyhound 2, but Collider says the film could be released as early as next year if production goes according to plan.
Over the last six years Greyhound has quietly become one of Apple TV’s most successful movies. The 2020 straight-to-streaming release holds a 78% critics score and a 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and has returned to Apple TV’s top 10 multiple times.
Hanks initially expressed displeasure that the original did not receive a theatrical run but later softened his stance, thanking Apple for giving the movie a chance; Collider notes the film may have been axed if Apple had not picked it up.
What happens next remains unclear: Collider says Apple TV still needs to confirm production details and begin marketing, and those moves will shape the sequel’s release timing and wider streaming impact.
